Step 7: Cookie Notice and Privacy Policy

Cookies Notice on Flat White Websites mockup

Cookie Notices feature on virtually every website, since General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, became law in 2018.

When you’re ready to launch your website, it’s a great time to activate your Cookie Notice too.

Cookies

A cookie is a small used to store data on a user’s browser.

Do you need a Cookie Notice?

Almost definitely, yes.

Your website is built on WordPress, and WordPress uses two types of cookies:

  • Session cookies for logged in users, like yourself
  • Comment cookies, when users leave a comment on a post.

If you disable all comments, then, technically, you don’t need a Cookie Notice.

Website Analytics: if you use Google Analytics on your website (even if you don’t use the Monster Insights PlugIn), cookies will be used. Although these cookies will not be storing personal data, you still need to inform visitors that that they are being used.

Have a look at our Cookie Notice page to see what cookies we use on the Flat White Website – feel free to use the same information.

How do I activate a Cookie Notice?

It’s really easy – you just activate the Cookie Notice Plugin, and edit the settings to suit your needs. Watch this video to find out exactly what to do:

Privacy Policy

A Privacy Policy is a legal requirement that states what information you store about individual visitors to your website, how you store this information, and how you keep the information safe.

Do I need a Privacy Policy?

If you are storing any personal information about your clients or website visitors, you do need a Privacy Policy. See our Flat White Websites Privacy Policy here. Again, feel free to adapt the same content for your own Privacy Policy.

Here’s a really useful blog that explains what needs to be included in a Privacy Policy.

Where do I have my Privacy Policy?

Add a Privacy Policy page to your Footer menu to make sure that any visitors can find it easily. And, when you activate your Cookie Notice, link to this page.

Are you ready to launch your website? Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect!

And, if you have any questions, just ask.
